At New Scotland . Another good night for baseball. The Twins opened the game scoring one run in the top of the first on three singles and a walk against starter Mike Girard. However, they left the bases loaded. The Cubs answered in the bottom of the first scoring four runs on two singles, two walks, and an outfield error which turned a single into a guy standing on the bag at third. The Cubs, tacked on four more runs in the bottom of the second on two singles, a double, a hit batter, and a Twins error. 8 to 1 Cubs after 2 full. Stefan Koutsakis relieved Twins starter JEFF WHITEHEAD with one out in the second and held the Cubs to one run and four hits the rest of the game. The Twins manager, that would be me, made a mistake starting WHITEHEAD who had pitched a full game the night before and was willing to take the mound again last night. We were hoping to get a couple of good innings on the mound from JEFF, but, I shouldve known better. The twins made a respectable ball game out of it by scoring four runs in the fifth inning on a walk, two singles, and two doubles. Offensively, the Cubs had nine hits from 9 hitters including a double by Carlos ESPADA, while the Twins had 12 hits, including doubles by, Koutsakis and Steve RYCHCIK. Frank Owens went 34. A gimpy Ricky Saidenberg went 22. Mike Girard pitched all 7 for the Cubs striking out 2 while walking 4. The Twins made 2 errors and the Cubs none.Final score, Cubs win 10 to 5.
