Mike Kane scored from second base on a sacrifice fly for the only run of the game, as the Whiz Kids edged the Dodgers 1-0 Thursday night at blustery New Scotland. Kane lined a 1-out double in the top of the first inning. Bob Holmes followed with a drive to deep left center field. The Dodger outfielder made an acrobatic catch while battling the wind, but when he fell to the ground, Kane took off, and crossed the plate ahead of the relay throw. Little did we know that it would be the only run of the game. Kane pitched a complete game, allowing 6 hits, and getting out of a bases loaded, 2-out situation in the bottom of the 7th, to improve to 2-0.
Dodger pitchers Mark Denicola and Ray Coletta were also in midseason form, allowing only 3 hits. Mike Surin had a single and a double to lead the Dodgers. Don Ball has put together a solid team.
