The Capital Division is gearing up for its second season and I think we are still riding a wave of enthusiasm from 2018! Returning players know what this division has to offer. For those of you who may want to join, I'll share a brief explanation.
The Capital Division offers players in their late 50s, early 60s, late 60s, early to mid 70s an opportunity to play some quality baseball with their old and new friends in a casual atmosphere. Games are played on Saturdays from June thru August (extending the season is an option) at fields in the Capital Region. Teams are established each week with an effort to ensure competitive balance while also offering everyone a chance to play with different groups during the season. Games last seven innings and there is one umpire. Games are usually followed by a couple of cold beverages and bar food.
There are no standings. Nobody keeps their batting average. We have cool red and blue jerseys. Everybody bats. Most teams use three or four pitchers during each game and people get to play positions that they might not otherwise play in the more formal CDMSBL age groups. In fact, one of the nicest compliments I hear about the Capital Division is when people say "I love it because I actually get to play". Seriously, the Capital Division is as close to school-boy pick up games as it gets.
Another huge advantage to playing in the Capital Division is that players don't have to financially commit to a full season. Once you have paid the $30 registration fee, you pay $10 for each game you attend.
Let's get the ball rolling. If you would like to join the division, please send a $30 check payable to CDMSBL to PO Box 8556, Albany, NY 12208. Please include your email address and some basic baseball information with your payment.
