Cubs' bats stay sizzling hot in quarter final win.

The Cubs bats stayed hot in game one of the playoffs, as they pounded out 20 hits and 16 runs, in a 16-7
quarterfinal win. The Cubs got on the board first again, with 4 runs in the first. Scott Ross, Dave Mitchell,
Ron Lochner, Jerry Rosen, Dean Little, and Darrell Duncan all had hits in the rally. Lochner, Rosen, Little, and
Duncan drove home runs with their hits.

The Long Island Yankees, picked up a run in the 2nd and two more in the 3rd, to close the gap to one run.
The Cubs answered with 4 more runs, in the bottom of the 4th. Rosen led off with a single. Little and Duncan
were walked to load the bases. One out later, Ralph Caputo doubled all 3 runners home. Caputo scored later
in the inning on a wild pitch.

Bob Bolt kept the Yankees at bay, through the 6th inning, enabling the Cubs to build a 8-5 lead. With the scorching heat
wilting players on both sides. The Cubs put a serious hurt on the Yankees, by tacking on another 4 spot, in the bottom of the 7th.
Caputo, Ross, Jack Griffin and Mike Girard all had hits in the rally. Griffin and Girard each knocked in a run. Mitchell and Lochner
each drove in runs on fielders choices.

Ron Massaroni pitched a scoreless 7th to maintain the lead at 12-4. In the top of the 8th, Jimmy Konstantakis ran into a little trouble
giving up 3 runs on 3 hits, a hit batter, and a Cubs' error. Mike Girard came on and induced a fielder's choice and a 5-4-3 double play
to end the threat, and preserve a 12-7 lead.

The Cubs salted away the game in the bottom of the 8, when they plated four more runs to build the lead to 16-7.
Ross, Griffin, Girard, Mitchell, and Lochner had consecutive hits in the rally.

Girard got through the final inning without giving up any runs, and the Cubs were on to the Semi-finals.
An upset of the top seeded and defending champion, Suncoast Suns, by the Puerto Rico, set up a semi-final with the 4 seeded
N Virginia Pirates. 30 minutes to grab something to eat, re-hydrate, and get ready for the Semis!
