Jerry Solomon and his Colorado Stars advanced to the semifinals of the 65+ Cactus Division with 13-0 and 21-4 rout of the Tahoe Solar Sox and the Hollywood Stars on Thursday at Papago Sports Complex in Phoenix. Colorado will play the San Diego Aztecs at 9:15 in the morning (Az. time) at Fitch Baseball Complex (Athletics). If they win that one, Solomon will get the ball for the championship.
Meanwhile, in the National Division, our Chicago TSP Fire team advanced to the championship game with a convincing 14-5 victory Thursday morning over the Minnesota/St. Paul Saints. Playing 3B/SS/2B for the most part and pitching 8 shutout innings so far is hopefully going to keep the old arm sharp for the 55s upcoming tournament in Florida. We play the 5-time defending champion Los Angeles Athletics at 9:15 a.m. at the same complex as the Colorado Stars. The A's beat us 10-0 in Game 4 of the Round Robin. They led 10-0 after three before some old guy from CDMSBL shut them down on 3 hits the rest of the way.
Temps here in mid-to-upper 80s.
To all my 55 Florida teammates back home, keep doin' what your doin'; can't wait to see you guys again.
To Mike Surin and his 45 team, go right at 'em and give them CDMSBL hell!
The inland Angels are sure to be a tough out in the 60s with Tom Maney/Tim Brown showing the way.
Jimmy K, thanks for the update, and good luck to you in your championship game tomorrow morning against the LA As. Hopefully, Jerry gets a shot to pitch for a championship as well with his Colorado team.
Well, it didn't go so well for Solomon and the Stars or our Chicago team in the 65+ tourney in Phoenix.
Jerry's team got beat in the semis and the five-time defending champion LA A's made it six straight with a crushing 15-3 win over our TSP Fire team out of Chicago.
My biggest disappointment is that our coaching staff thought it best to start a 72-year-old ephus-ball pitcher who allowed the first 6 batters of the game to score. Our CDMSBL rep never took the mound after shutting them out in relief for six innings in Game 4 of the Round Robin. Instead, played 3B and SS. But I had a blast, housed with 5 players from the Colorado Stars all week, including Solomon who provided loads of fodder for the boys!
Onward to Florida! Team Albany Cubs are loaded with talent and chemistry. Gonna be a fun week Nov. 4-11.
Sounds like a great bunch of ballplayers out there representing in a big way. Congrats to everybody so far, and good luck to the boys still to play. Don't be afraid to go at it like it's your last game. Make some memories. Bring home a ring.
