Cubs remain undefeated through 8 games.

Ralph Caputo got the Cubs off on the right foot, pitching the first 3 innings, shutting out the Americans, while surrendering just 1 walk, and no hits.
two American's hitters did reach on errors, in the second inning with one out, but Ralph picked up his fielders by getting a pop out to second and a
week grounder to first.

While Ralph was keeping the Americans at bay, the Cubs hitters were providing him with a nice cushion.
The Cubs plated 5 runs in the first, on singles by Scott Ross, Ron Lochner, and Jim McQuade. PJ Martone had a big 2 run double in the rally, and the Cubbies were aided by a couple of errors.
The second inning got off to a good start when Mike Girard and Ron Lochner both doubled with one out. The next batter struck out, but reached first when the pitch went to the back stop.
Martone and Dave Mitchell followed with singles, and the Cubs were up 8-0.

The Cubs pushed the lead to 10-0, in the 3rd inning on a 2 RBI single by Ron Lochner, that drove home Scott Ross and Skip Treece.

The Americans got 3 runs in the 5th on 4 walks, and a 2-RBI double by Mike Aiello. The Cubs pushed the lead up to 12-3, in the top of the 6th, on a walk to Martone, and consecutive singles by
Mitchell, McQuade, and Caputo. The Americans would get those two runs back in the bottom half of the inning on 3 walks, and singles by Brad Buchan and Brett Conlin.

With daylight fading, the Cubs put up two more runs, in the 7th on a lead off double by Girard, another single by Ron Lochner, a hit batter, and two rbi walks by Martone and Mitchell.

Jim McQuade finalized things by pitching a scoreless 7th inning, allowing just one hit.

The final score was 14-5, and pushed the Cubs record to 8-0

The Cubs enter the final game of the first round of the regular season with a two game lead over the Giants for the top seed.

The final match up is against the Dodgers, on Tuesday night, at the C-Diamond. Should be a fun game, with lots of offense.
