Cyclones Notch First Win With 10-2 Win Over Cougars

Beautiful warm day on Saturday as the Cyclones earned a win over the Cougars by a score of 10-2.

The Cyclones collected 12 hits including four doubles en route to a solid win. The Cyclones struck first on a single by the returning Dave Hartman (after two years off) and a double by Don Shultis in the bottom of the second inning. The Cougars tied the game in the top of the fourth on hits by Joe Tote and Patrick Biel combined with the lone Cyclone error.

In the bottom half of the frame, Dave Hartman led off with a walk and stole second base. Don Shultis would reach on a K/PB and Hartman scored on a subsequent ROE by Jim Denney and the Cyclones led 2-1. Tom Bain followed with a well placed bunt for a single and Shultis scored on the throw. After a wild pitch advancing the runners, Bill Farrell grounded to second for an RBI; 4-1 Cyclones. Sherwin So capped off the 4th with an RBI double and the Cyclones led 5-1 after four.

Dane Dostie led off the 5th getting hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a passed ball. Kevin Lau drove home Dostie with one out in the 5th to draw the Cougars closer at 5-2.

However, the Cyclones powered home two in the 5th and three in the 6th to outlast the Cougars.

A couple of big offensive days for the Cyclones include:

Sherwin So: 2-for-3, 2B, SB, R, BB, 2 RBI
Dan Tarullo: 2-for-4, SB, R
Dave Hartman: 2-for-3, SB, R, BB, 2 RBI
Scott Travis: 1-for-1, 2B, R
Tom Bain: 1-for-1, 2 BB, SB, R, 2 RBI

The story of the game, however, was Cyclones starting pitcher, Bill Farrell. Bill went the distance for the complete game win. Farrells final line: 7 IP, 2 R (1 ER), 6 H, 2 HBP, 0 BB, 3 K; CG (W).

A big thanks to new Cyclone Dan Tarullo for helping out and a big welcome back to Dave Boomer Hartman. Heres to hoping we see more of those guys on the field this year!

Up next for the Cougars is a tussle with the Golden Marlins at 10:00 am at New Scotland on Sunday June 24. The Cyclones get the Red Sox in a double-header next Sunday at Watervliet HS with the first game starting at 2:30 pm.

Good luck to Frank and the Cougars the rest of the way!
