As many of you know, we are introducing the Capital Division this year primarily as a way to give guys aging out of the 55+ Division an opportunity to play more baseball. To date we have well over 35 players interested in that age group. In recent weeks I have received quite a few inquiries from guys in their 40s and 50s who are interested in the division. Maybe they heard that I would be pitching!
A more serious explanation might be that our league has an "in-between" age bracket. Guys in their early 40s might be struggling in the 30ish division but too young for the 45s. Guys in their early 50s might be having a tough time in the 45s but are too young for the 55s. I have also heard from several people who have not played baseball in years and who are looking to ease themselves back into the game. The Capital Division concept is very appealing to players in these predicaments. We are going to play well-organized, good quality baseball with more emphasis on having fun than on winning.
Now that we have a small group of players in the 40 and 50 age group, I would love to expand that group. If we have enough players each weekend, we can schedule two games and gear one game towards the younger players. Again, we will play games on Saturdays at Watervliet High School from June 2nd thru August 25th. Anyone who would like more information should email me at dballjr@nycap.rr.com.
