This years Holiday Classic in Kissimmee, FL got quite interesting when we accidentally won a game! First let me explain that in the 17 team tournament the top 2 teams in each of the 4 divisions qualify for a playoff spot in a National division playoff scenario and the next best 6 teams enter an American playoff scenario. Curt Tucker and myself playing for the Atlanta Redwings beat a top Chicago Royals team(15-1), finished the round robin 2-1(with 9 runs scored against) and landed us in the National playoffs which we lost today against the Vituro Cardinals 13-2. Curt and I both shared the mound duties and tried to keep the ball playable. Their pitcher never threw slower than 85... probably a few in the 90?s and a few of their hitters could reach the fence. What an experience it was just to play these guys. Our other local boys Rick Caruso, Jack Griffin, Mike Ferrraro and Steve Hutchinson backed into the American division playoffs with the Maine Diamond Dogs going 0-2-1(tie)! They won their first round and are presently playing their second game tonight as Curt and I will be rooting them on . Good times playing a kids game. Mike Surin
Yeah Mike.....It was a little strange that Rick was jumping up and down while the team was losing in the 7th inning. Maine unfortunately lost to Chicago 15-5....but I think Ralph did have a smile on his face.
