Albanys Bill Kervan, Fred Pigeon and Brad Buchan are playing for the Avengers this week in the Roy Hobbs World Series in Ft Myers. Sunday they beat Toledo McGuire Insurance in a shortened game with Kervan going a solid 5 innings, Pidgeon sending some booming shots to far out in LCF for several RBIs and Buchan playing a solid 2B.
Avengers brought home the W Monday in a well-played game defeating the Boston Braves 5-2. Pidgeon went 2/3, Buchan 2/3 and Kervan putting up a good SAC bunt leading to a much needed run. Kudos to the Braves pitcher who went all the way in defeat. We agreed he could rival many of our top pitchers back in Albany.
Don Wixon is playing for the DC National Spirit and making a impression with his hitting. The Spirit is working past a loss on Sunday and Monday.
Avengers go at 10 today against a tough San Diego Padres team at the Twins training fields. The Spirit go out at 10 against the Key West All-Stars at the Red Sox training fields.
Today - the Avengers ran into a tough San Diego team. They lost 18-5 and when the Avengers arrived at the field - the San Diego team was selling lollipops and "ass whippins", and unfortunately they were fresh out of lollipops................
Pidgeon and Buchan had hits with Kervan making an outstanding shoe-string catch at 1B. On to the next game...............
