Yes, I got the score right. 5 days after losing to the last place Peppers 6-5; the Marlins took down the first place contending Yankees 12-0, in 6 innings. To be fair the Yankees were missing quite a few starters, but the Marlins did play their best defensive game of the year. Playing without regular 3rd baseman John Corrigan, the Marlins sent septagenarian Don Wixon to 3rd, and he was fantastic at the hot corner making 3 great play (two of them started double plays). Ralph Caputo and Wayne Newcombe were both solid up the middle, and Jim Ansel was a scooping machine at first base. Meanwhile Mike Girard scattered three hits and 4 walks in his six innings of work, pitching economically, using his defense to get through one inning in 5 pitches, and another in 4 pitches. I don't have the book in front of me, so I will have to add the offensive heros later. I wanted to get this result on the BB, so that the other teams that this result effects would know what happened in the game. The Marlins improve to 6-7, and move into 4th place (with the Cardinals loss to the Peppers). The Yankees drop to 10-3 with the loss, and slip into second place. It should be an interesting final week of the regular season. Good luck to all!
