Anyone sticking around the Capital Region for the Labor Day weekend? Anyone also not working that weekend and interested in playing baseball?
The Berkshire Baseball League has agreed to try and put two teams together and in return we would offer them two teams from the CDMSBL in a "Berkshire-Taconic" invitational tournament. The Berkshire Boys put together a good squad for some fall baseball last year at the Chatham Complex and we'd like to expand upon it and see if we can make it a bit bigger this year.
We'd love to keep the teams in the 35+/38+ range in terms of age limitations but would entertain 25+ if the rosters aren't big enough.
Of course, I'd need managers. I'm willing to try to put one team together but couldn't possibly make two teams work by myself. If I have a couple of die-hards out there willing to put the time in, I am willing to help put this tournament together - including coming up with a format. And if anyone has any ideas they'd like to try for a tournament, this might be the perfect opportunity to try it.
If you're interested in playing in a Labor Day tournament here at home let me know and I'll put you on the list of participants - and, if you're interested in managing a team or helping to organize the tournament itself, you get to the front of the line!
Once we have determined that we have enough participants, we will work on getting fields and umpires and determining the format.
I believe there is some interest from myself and some of the members from the Dbacks in the 33's. I will talk to Hank to see if he has interest in managing a team. I will also work on getting you a more accurate head count. Labor Day hasn't been the same the last couple years without baseball. JJ Janetsky
I play in the Newburgh Hardball League and some guys from my league plus players from the DCMSBL would be interested in a Labor Day Tournament in Albany if there is one. Please keep me in the loop if you guys are able to set up a tournament. Thank you!
Mike
It's starting to look very promising. A lot of interest. In fact, more interest than I was anticipating.
I am giving myself a one week from today deadline to get some of the larger details together and if it looks like we're going to have at least five teams then I will get something official out by the end of July.
