Massaroni leads Peppers to win one

Ron Massaroni was only two outs from throwing a no-hitter, and instead left Watervliet High field Wednesday night
with a complete-game one-hitter, as the 55+ Red Hot Peppers won their first game of the season, a 7-0 victory over the Twins.

Ron pitched quick and smooth, striking out four batters and walking none. His teammates mixed pretty fair hitting,
starting in the fourth inning, when they scored four runs, with equally good defense as the team improved to 1-9.

The Twins (4-6) hustled, and hit the ball hard more than once, but it kept landing in Peppers' gloves. Pitcher John
Newman got the lone hit, a clean single to right center with one out in the top of the seventh.

Congratulations to the Peppers on their 1st win in the 2017 season. They played good defense last night, but the big story was the pitching of Ron Massaroni. It was 0-0 going into the bottom of the 4th and that's when the Peppers scored 4 runs on several hits and a couple of Twins errors. Although the Twins hit the ball consistently well throughout the contest, it was one of those nights where the balls hit by the Twins were almost always right at Peppers players. Baseball can be that way. Massaroni was excellent on changing locations and speed with his pitches . Mike Hart reported a 7-0 score, but we had 6-0 in our book, 3 earned. Hart, who has recently breathed life into his bat, was the big hitter for the Peppers with 2 hits when they really needed them. If Massaroni gets the opportunity to pitch deep into games from here on out look for the Peppers to pick up some more wins..
