At 5 pm Thursday night, the showers started, and the Whiz vs. Cards appeared to be headed for their fourth rainout. Would-be meteorologists checked the radar, the skies, and crossed their fingers. Then, just before 6, the rain stopped, the sky brightened (somewhat), and the umpire was hailed from his car in the parking lot. Game on! Blaise Agnew was certainly glad we played, going 3-4 with 7 RBI to back the 6-hit pitching of Jim Preller (2-0), as the Whiz Kids won 13-3. Agnew had a 2-run single in a 5-run first inning, a bases loaded double in the 5th, and capped off the night with a 2-run double in the 6th. Preller pitched a 6-inning complete game, allowing 2 earned runs and fanning 6. He helped himself with the bat, going 3-4, with 3 runs scored. Other Whiz with multiple hits were Reggie Flansburg and Brian Musella. For the Cards, Paul Watson was 3-3, Clayton Bouton was 2-3, scoring in the first on an RBI single by Don Ball, and clearing the fence in left to lead off the bottom of the 5th. The two teams have yet another rainout to reschedule. Crazy weather.
