On a day when each team only played with the bare minimum number of players, your CDMSBL stars took care of business and evened the series at 1-1 with a win on Saturday.
With only nine players in each lineup, every spot in the order got a minimum of 5 plate appearances against some good pitching making this an excellent workout for those going to the upcoming national tournaments in a couple of weeks. The Massachusetts boys are legit players and provide excellent competition. Defensively, only one error was committed by the New York team and only two were committed by the Massachusetts boys. This was a solidly played defensive game and the pitching was good but the bats were alive for both squads.
While we don't have pitching numbers, we can report that Jerry Solomon (33+ Padres) got the win in relief pitching 3 innings and Mike Ferraro (33+ Yankees) earned the 1 inning save.
Offensively, the numbers are plentiful -
Darren Foote (33+ Bears) - 1-for-3, BB, R Andy McCauley (33+ Dirtbags) - 0-for-2, 2 BB, 2 R, RBI J.J. Jeanette (33+ Umpire) - 1-for-4, 2 BB, 2 R, RBI J.B. Brantley (33+ Indians) - 2-for-4, 2 BB, 2 R, 2 RBI Dean Rowe (33+ Bears) - 2-for-4, 2B, 2 BB, 4 RBI Mike Ferraro (33+ Yankees) - 1-for-3, 3 BB, 2 RBI Scott Steltz (45+ Brewers) - 1-for-5, BB, RBI Jerry Solomon (33+ Padres) - 1-for-5, R
Up next is the final game in this three game set scheduled for October 15th - 3:00 p.m. at Chatham. Once again, the folks at Chatham treated us well with ideal field conditions and good umpires. Hats off to an excellent crew there in Chatham and good luck to the Massachusetts team for next week.
Yeah. most of them occurred in the sixth inning. The one pitcher for the Massachusetts team was a bit wild and was a knuckleballer too. I think he walked 7 in the inning.
