33+ Division Awards - Final Vote Totals

The 33+ Division voting is final and I have been asked to post the results. The voting system went as follows: each manager was asked to cast a 1st place, a 2nd place and a 3rd place vote for candidates in each category. A point system of 3 points per first place vote, 2 points per second place vote and 1 point per third place vote was given and the candidate in each category with the highest point total won the award.

The results are as follows:

CY YOUNG AWARD (Most Outstanding Pitcher):

1. B.J. Roberts - Indians (17 Points)
2. Jami Burnetter - Indians (9 Points)
3. 3-Way Tie (7 Points) - Gary Bosko (Mets), Jimmy Johnson (Reds), Jim Morrill (Warriors)

MOST VALUABLE PLAYER:

1. Will Horan - Indians (18 Points)
2. Rob Bialkowski - Bears (14 Points)
3. Len Hunter - Reds (5 Points)

ROOKIE OF THE YEAR:

***** THERE WAS A 1ST PLACE TIE FOR ROOKIE OF THE YEAR

1. Joe Devers - Reds (14 Points)
2. Mike Ruffinen - Indians (14 Points)
3. Rob Wadsworth - Bears (13 Points)

MANAGER OF THE YEAR:

1. Rob Currier - Bears (19 Points)
2. Eric Kohls - Reds (17 Points)
3. Jim Bonaparte - Indians (12 Points)

Commissioner Jim Bonaparte asked me to congratulate not only all the winners but all of the candidates for each category on a fine season.

Good luck to the remaining four teams in the playoffs - Indians, Reds, Warriors and Diamondbacks.

I've toyed around with trying to say the right thing when it comes to thanking the other managers in the 33+ Division for their votes for Manager of the Year. I can only say that I am not only humbled by the recognition but I also strongly recommend that each of the managers who voted for me check into their local hospital and have their head examined. As I struggle to come up with why a manager of a team who went 8-12 along with a single game loss of 35-2 during the season could end up as Manager of the Year, I am reminded that nearly every manager we played against this year as well as countless players from many teams recognized the hard work we've been putting into improving the team as well as the knowledge that the Bears always showed up as ready as they could be to play a ball game and give everything we had every time we took the field even if we didn't always have the talent.

In my opinion, a case could be made for every manager in the 33 Division being named Manager of the Year, yet my peers selected me. I humbly say thank you to all of you and believe that all of you are deserving of the title.

So while I accept the award for Manager of the Year, I would be remiss if I didn't recognize my players who played for me. Lord knows, the only reason I could even be considered for this award is because of these guys who play hard every night we play. My hope as the Bears go forward is that I can learn from and correct my mistakes so I can be as good a manager to them as they have been to me as players.

So many thanks to:

Congrats, Rob!

What I admire most is your attitude. Despite the bad losses, you never cried foul or blamed others. You took responsibility and worked even harder to compete against the best. The respect your players have for you is very much on display with their commitment to return next year and help recruit to make you even stronger. It is so much easier to leave for greener pastures; it's much more satisfying to build it on your own.

Your award is very much deserved.

Good luck, keep up the good work and give that Hartman guy an off-season workout regimen!
