Cubs get by the Black Sox, but just barely.

The Cubs and Black Sox got together Sunday morning at the Satellite field for a well played game.
Both teams were a bit surprised to be playing, with all of the rain on Saturday, and a quick shower on Sunday morning.
The game ended up being a tightly played contest, that wasn't decided until the last pitch.

The Black Sox jumped out to a 2-0 lead, in the bottom of the 2nd, on a 2-run home run by Joe Hauser.
The Cubs answered right back, in the top of the 3rd inning, scoring 3 times on RBI singles by Jon Martin, Shawn Maney, and Mike Girard.
The Sox plated the tying run, in the bottom of the 4th inning, on consecutive singles by Steve Rycnik, Ed Klopfer, and Joe Hauser, and a bases loaded walk to Joe Krause.
With the bases still loaded, and just one out, the Black Sox were poised to take the lead, but Cubs starter, Mike Girard induced a tapper back to the mound that turned into
an inning-ending 1-2-3 double play.
The deciding inning would be the 6th, when the Cubs staged a two-out rally. With two outs and nobody on, Bryce Cutler singled and was balked to second.
Shawn Maney followed with a RBI double, and moved to third on an error on a Girard grounder. After a Girard steal of second, Dave Mitchell singled sharply to center.
Shawn Maney scored easily, but Girard was cut down at home by a perfectly executed relay by the Sox.

Facing a 5-3 deficit, the Black Sox were unable to plate any more runs over the final two innings, and the Cubs walked away with a hard fought 5-3 win.

I must mention that Earl Mitchell pitched a very strong game for the Black Sox, limiting the Cubs to just 10 hits, while walking two and striking out one, taking the hard luck loss.
Girard scattered 7 hits to the Black Sox, while walking two and striking out 5, for the complete game victory.

The Cubs improve to 7-1, with the victory, while the Black Sox slip to 2-6, with the loss.
