Giants beat the Shasky's like 6-1 as sheesh, Jimmy Testorio (Sp?) must have pitched stellar to hold the G-men down to that or so was reported to me and speaks for itself I think...
And the Cubs manhandled the Jays 12-2 or 11-1 or something... I think most people stop counting after awhile as I am not even sure my score I posted on our game is completely accurate...
But it's close!
lmao...
and what's it really matter
someone wins, someone loses, and we all have fun...
and forget we are old but instead think and act like we are kids again for a few hours...
and dang I am grateful for that...
more so when I win though!
ha
Game called after 6 due to the umpires needing to leave at the 3 hour mark. Needless to say we were a bit disappointed they didn't allow the game to finish but, none-the-less, it was a fun day. Class game by both teams.
Look, I understand as well as everyone how games can get out of hand. What I meant by the comment is that when does it stop being a game and start being a spectacle? I'm fine with guys wanting to have fun on a Sunday and that's what a pick up game with your friends is all about. These are not pick up games. The umpires are on a schedule and are assuming that the games will be played as the game should be played. They have other games and other guys who are also looking to have fun on Sunday. The games have to move and if that means forfeiting some innings because there are no pitchers then so be it. Please be respectful of others. Please have fun playing. But please, if you want to take 3 hours and only get through 6 innings then organize your own game and call it a picnic.
It was a one run game in a 45+ league...the same league, I am guessing, that you play. Last I checked, I am not watching you on TV tonight. But I get it. You are a guy that plays golf with his buddies on Saturday morning but thinks he is on the Golf Channel. I guess there is one in every league.
No im not that guy nor am I thinking there are scounts in the stands. But I am an umpire and I know that we are in jeopardy of losing the umpires for the 45 league if we don't get these 45 games in check. I don't appreciate the personal insults especially since you are new and have no idea who you are talking to. Id be happy to discuss this off line. 518-369-9409
Several years ago the league was kind of coaxed to set time limits on our games. One of the beauties of the game is that unlike other sports there is no time limit to a baseball game, no clocks counting down the time or counting up the time. It had always been a "pastoral" game and as times change so do peoples perspective. We seem to live in a world where you must do more and do it in less time. Where are we racing to? Is not the one who finishes the race first, that is the human race we are all taking part of, not around tomorrow? I understand that we have a limited number of fields and oftentimes, especially in the 45 division, but also in the 18 and 33 divisions, we have several games scheduled back to back to back. Certainly for the players it helps to know that your game is going to start on time, but I believed when we came to this agreement with the umpires that if it is the last game scheduled on the field that day or the only game scheduled on that field that we play to the completion of the game, except in cases where darkness or curfew come into play, or another caveat that was inserted, until a mercy rule is met. No, we players are not being scouted for the show and neither are the umpires. All of us are out doing our best, some better than others, some paying some being paid.

No need to discuss any further. As far as the insults go, you can take it or leave it. You are the one that was popping off about what is "classless" baseball and a "spectacle" regarding a game you were neither an umpire, nor a player. Your diatribe about what is considered baseball and pickup game was also, in my opinion, in poor taste. I may be new to the league, but I am not new to baseball or high-level athletics.
I felt as though your comments were a bit disrespectful. You may not agree. I think that anyone involved in this league is trying to do their best and trying to win games. They take it seriously from what I have seen so far. Telling them to go start a pickup game and call it a picnic is not exactly what I consider to be respectful. Clearly you disagree.
I get the need to keep the games going. All I said was that we were disappointed a bit that it had to end early but we certainly weren't crying about it and, in reality, my body is thanking me today it didn't go another inning.
If you want to discuss it further, we play each other a couple of times. I'm the dude behind the dish so you can't miss me. Otherwise, good luck. You guys seem to have it rolling.
