The meaning of senior men's baseball to me

As a new member of the 55's and a past member of the league, ( played back when it started ) I have had a great time playing baseball. I find the fact that having a draft of players will improve the competitiveness of the league. At 67 and 68 when the new season starts I want to play ball not worry about some championship. I read Mike's statement about having all teams end 8-7 or 9-6 but because of the gap there is one team every year finishing with a 14 - 1 record. Well then why not do what the NFL does. Let the lower 4 teams play each other more times than they play the top 4 teams and the same for the top 4 teams. Make an unbalanced schedule where team 8 meets the same type of competition nightly for the first half or so of the season, then when they have a few games under their belt than play the top 4 teams, Same with the top 4 teams play the best competition early and than play the lower teams. Finish the season back in the top. This way the league gets parity and maybe those players who feel frustrated toward the end of the season will instead look forward to playing ball. If the divisions need playoffs then make the playoffs a two division playoff where the top half compete and the bottom half compete. The winner of each half than plays for a title if so desired. I do not know about most of the younger guys but as a 55 division player and past Twilight leaguer, all my championship desires have long passed. The fact I can still actually play a little and have a night of fun and some ball busting is more than enough for me. The pick up games we played when the 55 season ended at Watervliet were fun and nobody cared who one. That to me is what senior men's baseball is about not championships. Fred Pidgeon
