Team Albany drops two

A tough day for the 56-Team Albany on Wednesday, as wilted under the hot Florida sun and dropped a pair of games to All-Star Baseball Academy and defending champion Maryland. We jumped out to a 2-0 advantage in the first inning of both games, but the leads evaporated quickly. Defense has underachieved, but we hope to put a better effort forward when we face Puerto Rico at 1:30 today. A win would most likely give us a spot in the tournament.

Standings in our division are Maryland 3-0, New Jersey 3-1, Puerto Rico 2-1, DC Express 1-2, Chicago 0-4 and we stand at 1-3. Fortunately, we have our two doubleheaders behind us. Unfortunately, with consecutive doubleheaders on Tuesday and Wednesday from the Monday rainout, we're pretty beat up. Thank goodness we have Wayne Nicholson, who can pile up innings with his windmill motion. Glad to see the 45s Albany Capitals have righted their ship, and the DC Mustangs with Dunn, Joe C and Bones are doing well. Any word on how Jimmy K and Billy Smith in the 65s, and Billy Kervan and Brad in the 70s did at the Hobbs' tournaments?

Billy Smith and Jimmy K team the Chicago Spirit are 3-1 heading to the playoffs. I am playing for the Kenebuc Cubs in the 53 division and we are also 3-1 heading into the playoffs. Great weather very hot. Good Luck to all the Albany teams the rest of the way.

We, the Spirit of Chicago, beat NorCal today in the seedings game to move to 4-1 and will likely be place in the 4A playoffs beginning Friday.
Our only loss was to Terra Haute, Ind., which lost in the 4A finals a year ago. It is a sponsored team with 20 players on the roster. We were tied at 1 after 6 with JK on the hill. Our reliever then came on and our defense failed him with TH scoring 3 runs without the ball getting out of the infield. We ultimately lost 8-2.

Later tonight we will find out who we play in Friday's first game of the 4A finals. JK is scheduled to start, but might not if we get TH again in the draw.

But gotta make ya' all a little envious. The Gulf is like bath water! Weather has been spectacular!

We have two 12-team divisions in the AAAA playoffs. We drew a bye as the 4th seed. We play at 1:30 Friday vs. the winner of the Detroit-Toledo game that starts at 10 a.m.
Detroit is the 5 seed and Toledo is 12.
