On a gorgeous Sunday morning at New Scotland, the Cubs handled the Blue Jays 13-1 in 5 innings. Ron Massaroni held the Jays to 1 unearned run, on just 2 hits and 2 walks, while striking out 3, in his 4 innings of work. Meanwhile, the Cubs put up 3 runs in the bottom of the 1st, 4 runs in the 2nd, and 6 runs in the 3rd to make the score 13-1 after 3 complete innings. Massaroni set down the Jays in order in the 4th, and Mike Girard came on in the 5th, and got the Jays in order to end the game.
The Cubs packed a lot of offense into their 4 innings at bat. They packed 15 hits, a hit batter, and 4 stolen bases into those 12 outs. Dave Mitchell led the way, with a grand slam, off the left field foul (fair) pole. Bryce Cutler was 2 for 3, with a double and a triple. Shawn Maney, Andy Hoyle, Mike Clary, and Jim McQuade also had 2 hits each, with McQuade driving in 2 runs.
Tom Bradley had a RBI single for the Blue Jays.
The Cubs improve to 11-1, with the victory, and are looking forward to a rematch with the only team to beat them this year (the Bombers). This upcoming Sunday, the Cubs will take on the Bombers in a 9:30 am game at Swift Road. It should be a good one!
After the shellacking by the Cubs, the Blue Jays boarded the team bus over to B Diamond in Schenectady to play the Black Sox immediately after they beat the Cyclones. Blue Jays turned things around enough to win 12-7.
