The New York Giants hosted the Yankees on Saturday and the Marlins on Sunday, emerging victorious on both occasions.
Joe Burns, Ron Smaka and Mark Dabney led the Giants on Saturday against the Yankess..........I believe the score was 13-1. Joe pitched well (again) giving up a few hits over five innings. He also banged out some hits - the guy just shows up, keeps his pie hole shut, goes out and plays hard - that's why he was our team MVP last year!. Swagger Mark had a couple of hard hit balls, one ending up on the non-playing side of the left field fence. Woo-hoo! The Quiet Man, Ronnie Smaka drove in 4 runs with a couple of line drive hits (bases loaded double drove in three if my old brain is remembering it correctly).
Marlins/New York Giants.........Jerry Solomon's first five innings were excellent - still throws surprisingly hard for a 60+ year old guy, nice change up thrown to good spots. Pete Geannelis struggled for the Giants through 3 innings. Steve Wing, Tim Brown, Ralph Caputo and Daryl Duncan hit the ball had - Daryl popped one over the left field fence.
The New York Giants pitching held the Marlins at 5 runs after Pete was relieved in the 4th inning. Again, it was Joe Burns and Ronnie Smaka. Joe had three hits (I think). With the Giants down 5-4 in the bottom of the 6th...........man on.........Smaka delivered a rising dine drive homerun to put the Gaints up for good.........6-5. That was fun baseball!
Geez - only 4 games left in the regular season. Where did the time go?
The Giants wish newly acquired Good Guy Mike Ferraro a speedy and successful recovery from shoulder, bicep, rotator cuff surgery. See you soon!
