The Shaskys and Blue Jays played another good one yesterday, needing an extra frame for the Shaskys to earn an 8-7 victory at New Scotland.
Shaskys jumped out early, with their first four batters scoring in the top of the first, highlighted by a 2-RBI double by Dennis Lane that hit high on the fence in right center. But the Blue Jays rallied for five in the third, then added a run in the fifth on consecutive 2-out doubles by Tucker and Post. Meanwhile, Blue Jays hurler Lee Carilli had settled in, striking out 10 batters through 5 innings. But Greg Briscoe provided the next big Shaskys moment in the sixth, with a long 3-run HR over the left field fence, putting the Shaskys back on top, 7-6. The Jays countered with the tying run in their next ups. Both teams put runners in scoring position in the seventh, but neither scored. In the extra frame, Shasky Steven Hughes worked a 2-out walk, stole second base, and scored the eventual game winner on a clutch base hit by, again, Greg Briscoe. Ironman pitcher Jim Tesoriero set the Jays down in order to end the game.
In the losing effort, Carilli threw the complete game for the Jays, striking out 14 Shaskys in 8 innings. But this was a Shaskys day as they earn a season split with the Blue Jays and improve their season record to 4-3, while the Jays fall to 3-4.
Great game to be a part of, Blue Jays played a great game and are a class act. It truly could have gone either way, the kind of game that is filed in the memory bank.
