First up today on Satellite Field, the Blue Jays and Yankees played a close game with final inning drama. The Jays never trailed, plating two in the top of the first, and scoring in five different innings. But the Yankees countered nearly every turn, scoring in five innings as well. With two insurance runs in the top half of the seventh, the Jays matched their largest lead of the game and were up four heading to the Yanks final at-bats. Again, the Yanks battled, scoring one and leaving the bases loaded when the final out was retired. Blue Jays 10, Yankees 7.
Mike Surin started on the hill for the Jays, pitching four innings for the win, with John Weber finishing. The Jays knocked 14 hits with multiple hit games from Wayne Newcomb, Paul Post, Tom Bradley, and Curt Tucker.
(If you'll indulge me: I had a single in my first at-bat, a double in my second, and a triple in my third. I was left in the on-deck circle as our half of the seventh ended. Could a HR for the cycle have come? Probably not, but a guy can dream, can't he?)
If this game was played at the New Scotland field that bomb would have easily been out of the park. You would have been 1B, 2B, HR with the triple left to complete the cycle. Dream about the triple and put the HR in your pocket.
