The Cubs had their hitting shoes on Sunday afternoon at the Satellite field. They outhit the Cyclones 27-2, with 6 of those hits going for extra bases.
Bobby Davis led the way with 2 triples and 3 singles, scoring 2 runs and driving in 4. Bobby is now 8 for 9 on the season, with a HR, 2 triples, a double, and 4 singles! Mike Girard, Ron Lochner, Ron Massaroni, and Jim McQuade all added 3 hits each. Shawn Maney, Andy Hoyle, Dave Mitchell, and Tom Maney all had 2 hits each. The ball was hit so hard at times, by the middle of the Cubs batting order that the Cyclones had their left fielder playing 375 to 400 feet away. Even then, one of Bobby Davis's triples still ended up traveling over his head!
Meanwhile, Phil Gadomski and Ron Massaroni were keeping the game moving by allowing only one base runner total in 4 of their five innings, retiring the Cyclones in order in the other 3 innings. Only in the 3rd inning, when the Cubs committed 4 errors, did the Cyclones manage more than that one base runner. Each pitcher gave up just one single and struck out one each, while not allowing any earned runs.
Dave Plew and Rich Robertson had the singles for the Cyclones. The Cubs improve to 2-0 on the young season, and next face the Black Sox next Saturday afternoon at the Satellite field.
