The Capital District Cubs had it go pretty much according to plan in the first game in Round Robin play. The Cubs pounded out 24 hits worked 6 walks, reached on 2 HBP and stole 5 bases in a 20-1 drubbing of the Susquehanna Valley Braves. The Braves, who were a quarter final playoff opponent of the Cubs back in 2012, threw their ace in game one, and had a 1-0 lead after two innings. The Cubs however got into gear in the 3rd, plating two runs, and backing that up with 2 in the 4th, and 3 more in the fifth. Meanwhile, Chris Dunn settled in to allow just that one 1st inning run on a bloop single. Chris allowed just 3 singles, 2 walks, and 1 HBP, while striking out 7, in his 6 innings of work. Ted Martin, Mike Girard, and Jim McQuade pitched one scoreless inning each, with Jim McQuade striking out 2 of the 3 batters that he faced. The offensive story was that everybody contributed, as it was a virtual merry-go-round on the bases from the 3rd inning on. Randy Craft, Mike Girard, Dave Mitchell, Carlos Llera, Ron Massaroni, and Jim McQuade all had at least 3 hits each. Bobby Davis "only" had two hits, but netted 5 RBI's with two booming doubles.
Next up for the Cubs, the Louisville Colonels, at 5:30 pm on Tuesday.

Can't ask for a better start! I hope you didn't waste Jim McQuade, When's HIS start? Nothing like getting that first one , especially if you were against an ace. Hope everyone stays confident , focused and ready for anything they throw at you. keep rotating that defense , it'll pay off come Friday and Saturday. reel
Great chemistry on this team! Everyone has been working hard for the past six weeks for this week! Everyone plays wherever they are needed and nobody cares where they hit in the line up. Hell, our # 10 hitter was 3 for 6 with 2 RBI's yesterday! Can't wait for game 2! Wish you were here!
