Braves Advance on a "Walk-Off" Day

Shasky's evened the series with the Braves in game 2 on Sunday morning at B Diamond. The game went nine innings and ended on a Braves error allowing a runner to second base, followed by a walk-off base hit by Dennis Lane. Jim Tesoriero went the distance for the win and the iron man award. Final score 7-6.

Game two was more of the same, but this time it was the Braves who came away with the 10-9 victory. With two outs in the bottom of the seventh Rob Briscoe ripped a double down the left field line, followed by another clutch hit by Brendan Hogan for the Braves walk-off victory.

The Braves played shorthanded all weekend with alot of guys playing out of position. We used a lot of pitchers and played some sloppy defense, except for Brendan Hogan. He ran down more balls in center field than I can count in this series. Without his defense and hitting we would surely have lost this one.

Thanks to Shasky's for some hard fought games.

Next week the Braves and Royals face off for the B division crown.

Congrats to both Braves and Royals. Should be a fun series to watch.
Braves nipped the Giants 2-1 early in the season and Giants edged the Royals in Cooperstown back in early August.

Will look for the schedule to watch those games.

Good luck to both teams. They both exude quality and class.

Congratulations to the Braves on their winning a competitive weekend series. The Braves' toughness was evident in Mark Denicola taking the mound on Sunday morning still battling flu-like symptoms and a sore wing. The Shaskys got past Mark but we couldn't get past the Braves. But we gave them our best baseball.

After 16 innings of baseball, both teams had scored 13 runs. Both teams had come up with big hits - Tim (the catcher) Burns with the game winner in game one, Hogan and Danny Maguire with triples in a four-run Braves inning, big pitches - Jim Tesereiro struck out 4 or 5 batters in a row in the extra innings of game one - and big defensive plays. Brendon Hogan took the wind out of the Shasky sails with several running catches in CF (in fact I think he now shares a middle name with Bucky Dent!). As fatigue and injuries set in, the Braves dug just a little deeper to score the decisive run.

Best of luck to the Royals and the Braves next weekend.

Another fun season under my belt. A few more grey hairs on my head. And looking forward to next season.
