Chris Abrams pitched a 7-hitter and Reggie Flansburg went 3-4, scoring 2 runs and driving in another as the Whiz Kids take Game 1 of the semifinals 4-1 over the Cardinals. The Cards took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st on a one out single by Earl Mitchel, an error, and an RBI single by Scott Ross. The Whiz Kids evened things up in the top of the 2nd. Flansburg led off with a single, advanced on an error, and scored on groundout by Abrams. They went ahead in the top of the 3rd on a one out single by Brian Musella. He stole 2nd and scored on a Flansburg single. They added a third run in the 5th on a one out single by Dennis Buckley, and Joe Fusaro knocked him in with a single. The Whiz Kids plated their final run in the 7th. Flansburg had a two out single, and later came around on an error. Defensively for the Whiz Kids, Musella threw out a would be base stealer. That makes 6 of the last 7 runners thrown out attempting to steal. Leading the offense for the Cardinals was Bernie Zahn with 2 of their 7 hits. Game 2 is Monday at the satellite field.
