Cook Park ...

We have secured Kuhn Field for at least 8 games the rest of the year.

The field is mostly open until So. Colonie BR uses it for Fall Ball in September. The only caveat is that they can't book it on some Tuesday nights when they have concerts in the park.

We are the only outside league the administration at Cook Park allows to use the field. That is because of the rapport Jerry Solomon has developed with several administrators over the years. Jerry has done all the audio work for them at both fields.

A few caveats, however, come with use of the field:

- Don't try to fix the field to make it playable.

- Absolutely no drinking. Soft drinks and snacks welcome. You can even go outside the parameters of the field to use the grills within the park. I'm not sure if you can pop a frosty there or not. If you do, please be 21 or older.

- Please obey the speed limits within the park.

- We must give first right of refusal to CD umps, which is Denny Galka's group. The only exception is that we can still use one of our own umps to work the 55 Division games. If we go outside of our own umpires, then we have to call Galka first. If he refuses, we then can call Mark Fitch.

- What you bring into the dugout, you take with you. Leave no trash behind. If there is a trash receptacle, use that, but don't leave anything in the dugouts.

- If the field is locked when you get there, call me and no one else. (461-7850). I will get you in. Mistakes happen in communications. I'll be sure you can get the game in, but you may go without the field prepped. If it happens once, I'd be surprised, unless, of course, it is my screw-up! Just be sure you call me. If I don't answer, leave a message. I don't have my cell phone joined at the hip, but never too far away.

I have talked even more with the administration and all divisions are welcome to schedule games. Please be sure you treat the facility with respect. We are their guests.

Going forward, we can get a lot of use out of this park as well as Rogowitz (field with lights) in coming years. The BR season ends just after school lets out in June and is open the rest of the summer. It's $75 a game and we don't have to lift a finger to prep it or remove/replace tarps, etc.

They just re-sodded Rogowitz and are allowing the sod to really take hold before letting us on there. But it should be OK for Labor Day. If Tommy Smith is again running the tournament, then he can schedule with Wadsworth and handle the details since they have a past.

One final note: Police are active in and near the park. Several tickets have been issued in the past for various reasons. If you are late, please do not speed thru the park. Yes, there are speed bumps, but a lot of families and kids use the park every day of the week, so drive accordingly.

Thanx guys.

One final note, if you are coming from Washington ave the back way in there is a detour from 4-6 for local traffic only ( people who live there). You will get a ticket if there's a cop around so its best to make a left there and go around N enter from the Central Ave side.
