45s at Midseason

The arrival of Independence Day means weve reached the halfway point, more or less, in the 45 Division. New this year, the 45 Division split into two subdivisions - A and B. We added three new teams - Bombers (A), Pirates (B), and Warriors (B). A few observations:

Standings - A
Bombers 6-2
NY Giants 6-2
Reds 5-4
Golden Marlins 2-7

The new Bombers and defending champion NY Giants lead the way, while the Reds are in striking distance and the Golden Marlins, who have played a lot of close games, remain capable of a late-season surge.

Standings - B
Royals 6-1
Braves 6-2
Blue Jays 6-3
Yankees 6-3
Black Sox 4-5
Shaskys 4-5
Pirates 3-6
Cyclones 2-6
Cougars 2-7
Warriors 1-7

The Braves and Blue Jays have already surpassed their regular season win totals from last year (as have the Cyclones and Cougars), and the new look Yankees remain in the hunt, but the Royals are the team to beat in the B subdivision.

Record of A Teams against B Teams: 7-3
Only the Bombers have not lost against a B team. Braves have defeated two A teams; Royals have beaten one.

There are four B teams that do not play A teams. Those same four teams are 0-16 against the rest of the B subdivision.

Games Played: 59*
1-run games: 11 (5 of them involving the Golden Marlins!)
Games won by 12 runs or more: 13
Shutouts: 6
Highest Scoring Game: Cougars 16, Warriors 15
Lowest Scoring Game: Braves 2, Giants 1
*I never saw a score reported for the Reds win over Giants on 6/22, so I dont know if it falls into any of the other categories.

As best I can tell, home teams are 32-27.

Lots of baseball to be played yet this year. Good luck to everyone.

Interesting analysis Curt .... It would be very interesting to see how some of the stats this year compare to last year... specifically the number of mercy rules and the number of one run games.

Big weekend coming up with the Royals facing the Braves and the Yankees ... a good weekend gives us some breathing room while a bad weekend will tighten things up even more.

Sure stunk not playing ball yesterday!
