the 55+ game between the yankees and the red hot peppers was washed out by a typhoon that hit the satellite field from 4:35 pm till 4:50 pm monday.
the bright sun and blue skies that followed, teasing us, showed a venetian canal from home to first and duck-inviting ponds at second and short. amazing what a quick, hard rain can do.
we couldn't have played in any case, but it didn't help to learn from scott bonnano and his son jake who'd arrived earlier to prep the field that the last home team to use the diamond on sunday failed to put the tarps at home and on the mound. the result? lots of needless mud in both spots and another big puddle behind the backstop. it only takes two minutes to put out the tarps. well, that and some thought.
ray demers and i will reschedule the game shortly. we'll tell harold and jimmy k.
