In the 33 Division, you might think the Bears would be the grown-ups and the Cubs the youngsters. But not so. After the expansion Bears earned their first franchise win against the veteran Cubs, the latter seemed determined not to let it happen again. Played at Burnt Hills HS, the Cubs evened the season series with a 6-1 victory.
The Cubs applied pressure from the outset, aggressive at the plate and on the bases. They plated two in the first and added another (in the 3rd, I believe). The score remained 3-0 until the Bears got on the scoreboard in the sixth on consecutive singles by Tucker and Howells, followed by a double steal. But Cubs hurler Ron Massaroni, who kept the Bears off balance all night, ended the rally there. Cubs kept hitting and added 3 insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth to put it away.
