AP News Release WARNING: Do not read this if you will be offended when you read a personal rip as your name may be mentioned below. I warned you...LOL, love you guys so I did it! The agent of 35 Pirates/ 45 Reds player Paul Miles (I really do my own work, but I liked the sound) notified the respective managers that the client has been placed on the indefinite IR list. Continually lingering spine structure issues has deteriorated to the point of extended relapses resulting in a 3 week home confinement and/or bed ridden state. Surgery is scheduled for Wed March 19. A statement from Miles was quoted as: "The medical community has done a fantastic job in dealing with this problem over the past few years, though my body has refused to respond. A complete season will be the absolute minimum to see how treatment progresses. The final decision was due to many factors though the 'nail in the coffin' was the thought of being listed below Mash, J. Reel, T. Smith and Eddie 'The Streak' Class on the league SB stats." Seriously, I'll really miss you guys but I will be strolling a cooler party now and then. Play well, play smart (that's you Girard on the bases!) and start stretching now boys. Paul P.S. Hey Tommy Maney- I would have given you a shout out too, but I think I MIGHT still be able to top your Big Gun assisted put out stat! I'll bring the beer for that one, what kind again?

Gonna miss you around the park. Not so much the pitches you call from the dish when I am hitting (you know me too well). Get better soon! We want to see you back in 2015!
Paul, Hey my old co-worker friend.................take it easy, brother. Wishing you a fast and COMPLETE recovery. Enjoy the anesthesia - it makes the whole thing worth while.
funny note, but not a funny situation, paul. i know what you're going through: i had double spine surgery in 2010. the good news for me - and i hope for you - is that a full return is possible.
one thing that helped me get through it? satchel paige's great line: "don't look back, something may be gaining on you." really, it helped. in other words, look forward. your play made the league better; heal, return and do it again.
-mike
