Four of our CDMSBL players competing this week finished today with mixed results, but overall made a good showing for the week.
Bill Kervan's American National Wildcats won in the Vintage AAA Division playoff finals today beating the Toledo Mud Dogs 15-3 with Larry Sample of Orlando, FL going the distance for the Wildcats. Kervan was at 1st base today and went 1/3 at the plate. To get to the finals - the Wildcats had to win a DH yesterday (Friday) beating the Kent Mudhens 6-5 in the morning and the Washington Nationals 12-11 in the afternoon. Kervan started the Friday morning game and pitched a solid 6+ innings to position the Wildcats for the W in the first half of the DH propelling the Wildcats into the semis in the afternoon in which he played 1st base going 1-3 with 2 RBI's at the plate. Congratulations to Bill and the American National Wildcats on a good week.
Dave "Bones" Jones' Boston Braves had tough sledding on Thursday with the powerful Ohio Classics downing the Braves 13-4, but were still seeded well (#2) going into Friday's AAAA playoffs. However, the Terra Haute Volkers really came to play Friday morning sending the Braves home for the tourney by a score of 9-4. Good effort by "Bones" and the Braves and their early week record of 3-1. He will go on to play next week with the American National Wildcats in the Timeless Division. Good luck Bones!
Wayne Newcomb's team - the 55 DHBA Athletics had a great game Thursday beating the Carolina Rockies 15-5 with Wayne playing a good shortstop and hitting well at the plate as cleanup. As #1 seed going into the AA Friday playoffs and positioned well with a BYE for the morning, the Athletics were sent packing in the afternoon game by the St Louis Dodgers 7-3 with the Dodgers going on to win the finals. Another good year of 55 play for Wayne - good job. Next week he will be under the wing of JimmyK playing for the National Wind of Chicago in the Classics Division. Good luck to Wayne and the other hometown boys on the Wind who start play on Sunday (tomorrow) at 10AM verses the MBI 60s
Eddie Rogers had a good game Thursday getting a couple hits and RBI's in his St Louis Grays win over the South Florida Suns by a score of 14-9. With the Suns threatening in the 8th, Ed came to the mound and closed out the inning, then setting the Suns down 1,2,3 in the 9th. Good job Ed. In their Friday afternoon playoff start however, the Grays were defeated by the Staten Island Reds 10-4 to close out a good week of playing.
