As the NY football Giants get ready to lose to the Chiefs (disclosure: this writer hails from KC), the 45 NY baseball Giants hope to sweep today's double header and take the league crown. Meanwhile, the 45 Yankees end their season on the same day as the MLB version. But unlike the younger gang, these fellas still have a shot at a championship this year.
A pair of lefties take the hill. Bolt for the home team Giants. Ambridge for the visiting Yanks.
Lex leads odd with a solid single, but is caught stealing. Yanks also muster a walk, but strand the runner.
Giants hit one ball out of the infield, but score 2 in the first. 2 singles, 2 walks, and a Yankees error sustain the rally, but Ambridge strikes out 3 to limit the damage.
Yankees half of the 5th was eventful. First 2 batters drop singles in front of the OF. Next batter vies for a third, but the Giants SS makes a strong catch. A hard hit ball to SS brings a force out at second, but the Yankee Skip was ejected for arguing the call when play resumes, a walk loaded the bases, and a 2-out single scores two.
Bolt tightens the screws in the seventh, setting Yanks down in order.
Giants claim the crown. Yankees were strong opponents today, but the Giants played well in the field, at bat, on the bases. And especially from the mound. They deserves these wins, and, given the season, deserve the crown.
Referring to the strong catch, Mike Labanowski, at full tilt, made an over-the-shoulder catch heading toward dead center to save the inning and possibly the game for the Giants.
