New York Giants vs. Reds Semi-final Recap

On Saturday, The New York Giants came back from a 6-0 deficit to beat the Reds 8-7. The Reds scored six runs in the first two or three innings on a combination of Reds hits and what can only be described as all around awful baseball by the New York Giants.

Giants pitcher Bob Bolt figured it out after the 3rd inning and held the Reds to limited offensive production after that. The Giants scraped together some runs ignited by a perfect bunt by Paul Scutieri between 3rd base and Reds pitcher Jon martin. Mario Arduini had a clutch single to score a run against tough lefty reliever Chris Dunn.

7th inning: Joe Burns hit a long triple with a runner on to score the Reds 7th run. With two outs Eddie Class, the Reds next (dangerous) hitter popped up a twisting ball into swirling 30mph winds. Giants 2nd baseman somehow caught the ball after going out for the ball into shallow right field. Realizing the ball was doing some crazy s**t, stopped, leaned back towards the infield and caught the ball by trapping it with his bare hand against the heel of his fielders glove, wha-la, final out of the game. It was suspenseful to say the least.

Bob Davis hit a homerun for the Reds.

On Sunday, the Giants come out on top 4-1 to clinch their trip to the Championship series.

Mike Kane and Wayne Phillips had big runs scoring hits for the Giants.

And like a rerun - Bob Davis (strong like bull) hit a homerun for the Reds. Chris Dunn threw a nice game for the Reds.

The Giants take our hats off to the Reds. We always play close, intense playoff type games (even in the regular season). The idea of merging the two teams and going to a Florida tournament was discussed after the second game that would be fun.

It looks like this years championship series will be a rematch of 2011 The New York Giants vs. New York Yankees. Lets hope for good weather and healthy bodies!

Lounello --- modest as ever.....

Although the Reds lost a tough, tough game Saturday, we entered Sunday with plenty of confidence, and high expectations. After all we had Chris Dunn ready to throw game one, and Ronnie Massaroni set for game 2, and Joe Burns in relief if needed.

What we didn't see coming was Stevie Lou on the bump for the Giants!!! After missing the majority of the season with various injuries, including a broken foot, Steve put on a dominant show. He was perfect through 3 and 2/3 innings before Bobby Davis launched a long home run to left. The Reds never threatened until the 7th, when we had two runners on with one out, but Lou got an infield pop-up, and a comebacker to end the threat, and the Reds season..It was obvious Stevie was motivated by the loss of his dear friend, who he had mentioned in an earlier thread...just a great, great competitor..

For his part, Chris Dunn pitched a very good game to keep the Reds in it..It was a 2-1 game untill Wayne Phillips came up with a huge 2 run double in the bottom of the 6th to make the final margin 4 - 1.

Congrats to the Giants as they certainly earned a trip to the finals..

Great win for a very talented team and I'm sure the Giants vs the Yankees will be a very competitive and exciting series. Good Luck to both of you and remember no one is a loser at this point no matter the outcome.
