The 6th-seed Golden Marlins swept a double header from the 3rd-seed Royals on Saturday 11-0 and 11-4.

Game one saw a dominant pitching performance by Phil Gadomski, as Mash went 6 innings giving up just 3 singles (2 by Mark Fiacco) and no walks. Mash kept the pressure on the Royals hitters all day, making them put the ball in play by not walking a single batter. He was ahead in the count most of the day, as he had great command of all of his pitches. The Marlins defense made every play and the Royals were unable to advance a runner past first base all game. Mike Girard came on and pitched a scoreless 7th, allowing just a 2-out single.
Mike Ferraro led the way for the Marlins offense going 4-4, with 2 double, 2 singles, and 4 RBI's. Randy Craft added 3 singles, 3 runs, and a RBI. Jim McQuade and Jim Ansel added two hits each, as the Fish pounded out 14 hits and 11 runs in the shut out victory.

Game two saw the return of John Latorre from injury for the Marlins. John walked his first batter and hit the second batter, as he struggled to find his command early on, but after a sacrifice bunt moved the runners to 2nd and 3rd, with one out, John got the Royals clean-up hitter to pop out to the catcher and the 5-hitter to ground out to short. John's next two innings went without a hitch as he gave up just one 2-out single in the 3rd inning. By the end of John's 3 innings the Marlins offense had amassed a 8-0 lead and John was given the rest of the game off to make sure that he would not re-injure his back.
Randy Craft took the ball and got through the 4th inning with no runs, but gave up 4 runs in the 5th inning (with the help of some questionable defense), and the Royals bench sprang to life, with the score at 9-4. The Marlins added 2 insurance runs in the bottom of the 5th inning and Mike Girard came on to pitch the 6th and 7th innings, giving up just one single, while keeping the Royals from producing any more runs.
Mike Ferraro again led the hit parade for the Marlins, this time going 3-4 (making him 6 for 7 on the day!), with 2 singles, a double, 2 runs, and 2 RBI. Randy Craft added two more hits, and Tom Smith and Joe Hervieux came off the bench to add big doubles in the two run 5th inning.

It was a total team effort for the Fish, and the cooler session was sweet.

Congrats to the Royal on a great season. Finishing the regular season in 3rd place showed how improved this team was from one season ago. Brad and Steve are doing a great job and have this team heading in the right direction. Have a great off-season fellas!

Just wanted to add how much fun it was to watch Mike Ferraro string together 7 consecutive hits in our doubleheader....every one of them was hit hard. Talk about being in the Zone! Also fun watching Mash do his thing in game one. Looking forward to the weekend!
