45 Dodgers over Black Sox 11-6

The Dodgers got back on track yesterday with a victory over the Sox even though it started out looking like our tough stretch was going to continue when the Sox plated 4 runs in the top of the 1st

In the past 6 games prior to yesterday we played the Reds (it was 3-2 after 6 innings), the Giants (0-0 after 6, 1-1 after 7 innings), Royals (2-2 after the 5th), Shaskys (we were up 12-7 going into the bottom of the 7th) and the Yankees twice (up 2-1 going into the bottom of the 7th and 3-1 going into the top of the 7th) ..... so we were competitive in every friggin game but lost them all.

During this season we have lost our clean up hitter Nick Kanellis and one of our main pitchers Jim Kisselburgh both to season ending knee issues and another stalwart in Darrell Duncan is out for a couple more weeks.

Despite this tough stretch we have remained positive and upbeat and we are looking forward to the playoffs.

We were fortunate enough to have Tony Parella return yesterday and after swinging at a ball at eye level and popping out in his first at bat he returned to form with a bomb over the RF fence.

But back to the game .... biggrin ... Solomon for the Sox versus Samarija for the Dodgers.

The Sox plate four runs in the top of the first inning on a single by Mitchell, an error and consecutive singles by Klopfer, Stanley, Hauser, Bonnano and Bintz. Dodgers get one back in the bottom of the first on a Corrigan double and an Altobelli Sacrifice Fly and then cut it to 4-2 in the second on a Samarija HR.

After a scoreless top of the 3rd the Dodgers offense woke up ..... Back to Back jacks by Jim Hicks and Tony Parella tie the game and then hits by Altobelli, Reed, Burns (2B), Conlin, Labarge and the second hit of the inning by both Hicks and Parella put the Dodgers up 10-4 after 3. Black Sox add one in the 4th and one in the 6th (Hauser single in 4th and Mitchell single in 6th) and Dodgers add one in the 5th (Corrigan single and Hicks RBI single) to round out the scoring.

If my understanding of the tie breakers is correct and assuming the Blue Jays beat the Cougars on 8/18 (not reported as of today) the 7th place Dodgers will face the 10th place Braves with the winner advancing to play the 2nd seed Yankees in round 2.

Good luck to all in the playoffs
