I am extremely proud of all nine Golden Marlins that showed up to today's game vs. the Black Sox. Injuries and vacations had whittled down the once-oversized Marlins roster to just 9 players on Sunday afternoon, and the Black Sox jumped on the fish for 7 runs in the first inning and a 8-0 lead after 2 innings, but the "Golden 9" never gave in. Just about this time, starting pitcher Phil Gadomski got the news that his Dad was being taken to the Emergency room. His reaction was to apologize to his teammates for having to leave. He even pitched one more inning before leaving (a 3K inning). The Fish rallied around their teammate and immediately got down to business.
The rally would start with 6 runs in the 3rd inning, on singles by Jim McQuade, Jim Ansel, and Joe Hervieux; walks by Tim Brown, Phil Gadomski, and Bob Coffey; and the help of one error by the Sox. After the bottom of the third, with the score still at 9-6 Sox, Mash was off to St. Peters Emergency Room to be with his Dad . The Marlins pulled to within 9-8 with 2 runs in the top of the 4th. This time Bob Coffey, Mike Girard, and Jim McQuade worked walks, and Tom Maney and Tim Brown got the hits. Mike Girard came on in relief of Mash, in the bottom of the 4th inning, and Don Wixon and the Black Sox were gracious enough to allow Jimmy Konstantakis to join us as the 9th player.
With the Black Sox clinging to a 9-8 lead through 5 complete innings, the Golden Marlins again rallied, this time for 5 runs. The rally started with a Tim Brown walk and a wild pitch that moved Tim to second. Girard followed with a single up the middle and the score was tied at 9. Jimmy K sacrificed Girard to second. McQuade and Ansel were hit by pitches to load the bases, and John Reel followed with a RBI walk. Bob Coffey was then the 3rd Marlin to get hit by a pitch in the inning and the eleventh run crossed the plate. Joe Hervieux capped the rally with his third single of the game (this one a 2 RBI single) and the Fish would lead 13 - 9. The rest was taken care of by Girard as he gave up just one unearned run in the seventh, as he picked up the win with 4 innings of work, giving up just 3 hits and no walks, while striking out 7 in those 4 innings.
Thanks again to Don Wixon and the rest of the Sox for allowing a borrowed player in the middle of a game. It just shows what a classy group of guys they are. Scott Bonanno led the Sox offense with two doubles and 3 RBI's.
The Golden Marlins move to 8-7 with the win, and play their final regular season game next week against the power house Reds.

You might get the Marlins down but they have a history of coming back for as long as I have been in the league. And I hope the same can be said for Mash's dad. Positive thoughts coming your way Mash from the Black Sox.
