Jim Porter will give the game recap. I just needed to mention something that occurred in the first game of the best-of-3 finals in the 55 Division Thursday night at the Satellite field.
Yankees vs. Whiz Kids. Don't know the inning, but Darrell Duncan of the Whiz Kids hit a shot to left-center field that appeared to be a home run. It was ruled a grounds rule double, the umpire saying it bounced over the fence.
Yankee outfielders Joe Hervieux and Matt Kelly, who had converged at the fence in left-center, summoned shortstop Tim Brown to inform the umpire that the ball indeed cleared the fence and should be a home run. That gave the Whiz the lead.
I have witnessed some acts of class in the 14 years I've been in this league. I can't think of any that surpass that. THAT, fellow CDMSBLers, is sportsmanship at its finest. And this is the Finals!
It's been said that acts of kindness don't go unrewarded. The Whiz took a 7-3 lead into the 7th inning when the Yankees scored 8 times and held on for an 11-7 victory. I hate to lose, but it didn't hurt as badly after Joe and Matt's class act.
Not surprising to me, knowing these two fine gentlemen! Both are class acts and show fine example of how the game should be played on an ongoing bases! Nice job guys!
glad to hear that the DY's pulled out a victory. wish I coulda been there to see it.
As far as Matt and Joe,I would be surprised at anything other than the right and honorable action taken by both men.
