Cubs outhit Rays in 10 - 3 victory.

One week ago the Rays pounded the Cubs 18-3 at Albany Central BR.
This time it was the Cubs on the other end of a lopsided score.

The game started off looking like it was going to be a slugfest between two good hitting teams.
The Cubs got 2 runs in the top of the first. Bobby Lane led off with a walk and Mike Ferraro singled him to third.
Mike Girard lifted a sacrifice fly to center, to plate the first run. The second run would score when Alan Pennick reached on an error.

The Rays looked like they were going to match the Cubs run-for-run when their lead-off man Freddie McIntosh homered on in the bottom half of the inning. As it turned out, that hanging change up that Freddie deposited onto the basketball courts over the left field fence was a rare mistake on this night by Cubs starter Bobby Poulin. Bobby would give up just two more runs (1 earned) on just three more hits over the next 5 innings.

Meanwhile, the Cubs never stopped hitting. They would score 1 in the second inning on a double by Dan Hernandez, a ground out that moved him to third, and a sacrifice fly by Dave Mitchell. The Cubs would add one more in the third inning on two walks and a two-out RBI single by Ron Massaroni. Bobby Lane drove in a run on a single and Alan Pennick drove in another with the Cubs third sacrifice fly of the game, in the 4th. After going down 1-2-3 in the 5th, the Cubs broke the game open with 4 runs in the top of the 6th. Jim McQuade walked and Dave Mitchell followed with his 4th homer of the season. Lane walked, Ferraro singled, Girard singled home Lane, and Poulin closed out the scoring with a RBI single. Mike Girard came on in relief of Poulin, for the bottom of the sixth inning, and got the Rays in order to close out the game, as darkness made it unwise to try to get the 7th inning in.

The Cubs improve to 17-3 on the season, with just one regular season contest remaining: Friday night at Bob Moore, in Scotia, at 6:00 pm, vs the Reds.
