The Shaskys pulled off a miracle come from behind victory today at the Satellite Field in their game against the Dodgers. The game was moving along pretty normal, The Shaskys had leads throughout the day of 5-2, 5-4, 6-4, 6-5. Then the Dodgers plated 2 in the top of the 6th to take a 7-6 lead, and then plated 5 more in the top of the 7th to blow open the game and take a 12-6 lead into the bottom of the 7th.
The Shaskys came up in the bottom of the 7th staring at a 12-6 deficit in a game that they had been leading until the top of the 6th. After Mike Camoin led off reaching on an error, hits by Tony Melendez and Tim Burns got things started, but by the time Shaskys scored a run on Dennis Lane's sac fly they had two outs and things looked pretty grim. 2 outs, down 12-7, two men on base.
That's when the two-out miracle started. Jimmy Tesoriero single(RBI), Don Ball HBP, Ed Bitner single(RBI),Mark Callahan single(RBI), and Steve Hughes single(RBI), all this led to the final at-bat of the game. Mike Camoin, who led off the inning, coming to the plate with the bases loaded, two outs, with the tying run on third and the winning run on second.
Ralph Caputo was on the mound in relief for the Dodgers, and he made Camoin look bad swinging at a fastball for strike two. The count was 1-2 when Camoin bore down and poked a fly down the left field line, fair by about a yard or two, to score Bitner and Callahan with the tying and walk-off winning runs.
Certainly the largest deficit that was erased in the last inning in Shasky history.
Hats off to the Dodgers - this exciting game was nip and tuck most of the way, with some great pitching by Chuck Sohl for the Brooklyn team and Jim Tesoriero for the Shaskys.
Chuck Sohl and Bob Altobelli each hit huge Dodger home runs, a 2 run shot and a 3 run shot respectively. When Altobelli crushed his 3 run dinger to put the score at 10-6 in the top of the seventh, it seemed like the game was blown wide open at that point.
A great day for baseball and for making memories that will not be soon forgotten.
