The WhizKids scored 4 runs in the top of the 7th inning to break a 4-4 tie and defeat the Marlins by a score of 8-4 Tuesday night. Anthony Torre led off the 7th with a single, advanced to 2nd on a passed ball, on to 3rd on a single by Jim Porter, and scored on a single by Jerry Solomon. A single by Dennis Pierce loaded the bases, and after Porter was out at home on a fielder's choice, Joe Torre came through with his second RBI single of the game. An error allowed Pierce to score, as did Jesse Braverman, who hustled in from second base with the 4th run of the inning. Solomon (WP 2-0) set down the Marlins in order to end the game. Wayne Newcomb (3 for 4),opened the scoring in the 1st, coming home on a single by Don Wixon. The Whiz came back in the 2nd to go ahead 2-1, on RBI singles by Solomon and J. Torre. They increased their lead to 4-1 in the 3rd. Tom Maney scored on an RBI double by Darrell Duncan, and Jeff Teats scored on an RBI single by Mike Lannon. The Marlins got to within 4-3 in the 4th, when Don Burresci and Jim Gedney both singled. Burresci scored on an error, while Newcomb plated Gedney with a single. They tied it at 4 on a 1-out single by Jim Farrell, and a couple of errors. That set the stage for the decisive 7th inning for the WhizKids. Jim Konstantakis went 4 1/3 innings giving up 3 unearned runs, and Solomon finished up allowing 1 unearned run. Congrats to Ed Diegel and the rest of the Marlins on a good game. Jim Porter-WhizKids
