The Cubs and Padres snuck a game in, between rain outs, Thursday night at Kuhn field in Colonie.
The Cubs used a 10 hit attack and strong pitching to beat an under-manned Padres team 11-0. The normally potent Padres offense was missing 4 or 5 of their top hitters, and only managed two hits off of Cubs starter, Ron Massaroni. Ron pitched 5 innings giving up just those two singles (Dom Libassi - 1st inning and Tommie Smith - 5th inning), and 3 walks, while striking out 5. Randy Craft made his 2013 pitching debut, hurling two hitless innings of relief, walking none and striking out 1.
Bryce Cutler led the offense with a walk, a double, and a grand slam home run, scoring 3 times, and driving in 4. The grand slam home run was Bryce's first homer since his Little League days, and it wasn't a cheap one. When the ball came back, it had the bark of the tree it hit stuck to the ball. Mike Girard added 2 doubles, a single, 2 runs and 3 RBI's. Dave Mitchell and Randy Craft added doubles.
The win pushes the Cubs' league leading record to 10-1. Next up: the Highlanders on Saturday morning at the Satellite field in Voorheesville.
