New York Giants 4 - Royals 3 There's No Such Thing as Bad Pizza!

Even a sloppy game of baseball played in Cooperstown by the New York Giants is better than ANY dam day at work and there's no such thing as bad pizza. C'mon, its PIZZA!

Working from memory here - scorebook was left in Cooperstown dugout by Giants absent minded manager.
The New York Giants met the revamped Royals (last year's Vets) in Cooperstown yesterday in hotter than expected temperatures. The Giants pulled the game out in the bottom of the 6th inning on a patented hard hit line drive single to left centerfield by Mario Arduini. When asked how it felt to drive in the winning run he said, "fahgitaboudit". Mike Kane laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to get Tony Nardacci (single to left) into scoring position. When asked what it felt like to score the go ahead and winning run, Nardacci responded, "fahgitaboudit". The Giants closed out the game in the 7th with runners on 1st & 2nd.

John Atwell threw a nice game for the Royals - threw the entire game in 90+ degree heat. The Royals played a solid game and could very well have could have emerged the victors. Dave Hartman hit the ball very hard - double and would have had a second one if Marky Mark Dabney didn't track down a tailing, low line drive in deep right field. Steve VanGelder drove in a run with a smash to right center. Again, Royals played solid defense.

Giants other notable performances:
Jan Friedman - bullet single - RBI
Carlos Llera - threw out three runners trying to steal 2nd base - Hit, Run
Pete Geannelis - gutted out 4 innings
Jim Whitford - 2 quality innings of relief (got the W)

The Royals are a great bunch of guys! They invited us to the Glimmerglass State Park to join them for their upscale team gathering, which included venison hot dogs, sausage and steak, all kinds of summer salads, wine, a virtual smorgasbord of culinary offerings. Thanks to Brad Buchanan, Steve VanGelder, Rick Koster, Matt Kelly and John Atwell for their gracious hospitality. When asked if he had had enough to eat (with a mouthful of potato salad), Carlos Llera mumbled, "fuhgitaboudit".

Next week: the New York Giants play the Black Sox at Cooperstown east (New Scotty) at wakey wakey 10am.

That would be Mister Rick Koster of the Royals, who, incidentally, the day before spent 8 hrs or more on his front loader spreading dirt across the Satellite OF for about 16 other guys to rake in. Without Rick and his Big Green Tractor, we'd never have gotten it done. A hearty thank you to Mister Rick!

My apology - I posted by using a fancy phone. It changed Koster to Mister (???) without prior written consent from me. Sorry, Rick. I just changed it in the recap.

Jim, thank you for the praise but I tip my hat to all of you with the rakes and shovels, you guys did all the work. I do realize that myself and that green tractor had a very small or no fan base at the end of the day. Great effort put forth by all. It should improve the field however it is a work in progress. I would like to extend my gratitude to you and your team for a great day in Cooperstown. I feel I can speak for my entire team in saying it was a well played game by both teams in the heat and quite enjoyable.....

You are too modest!
That was a great game in Cooperstown and we expected it. You guys have one helluva team and will be a major factor in the playoffs. Since several of your players have never played there - or had never been there - well, that's what makes this game so much more enjoyable. Jon Atwell, for one, had never been there and he threw a gem, not to mention that he looked like a little kid as he walked onto the field!

The get-together at Glimmerglass State Park capped one great day. Thanx for being part of it.
