Satellite Field

Scott Bonanno commish, please give me a call. 802-375-3203. My son Chris and I will be there Wednesday by 9:30 to do mound and various other fine tuning improvements. Just need shed open and bases. Also could use a couple of cut pieces of black plastic or tarp for mound and home plate?? Bringing all my equipment. You won't recognize the place when done. Pete G

Thanx Jimmy K! I'm assuming u have the keys to the building there? Will just need the bases and some of the turf ace product in there. I plan on staking the foul lines and painting, going to try and place the stake at 300'. Hopefully that will not be in the way of the soccer ground? Going to use combo of material there, turface and i'm bring 4 wheel barrows of martin mix clay that we use over here. Re doing the mound will build a platform on top, get the slope right. using sod cutter where needed. will measure out the whole infield again, square it up as needed, if needed. Check all the dimensions. Work home plate, level with bunker rake. Tamp and roll where needed. It will be important to rake out the mound and homeplate area after every game and tarp every time to preserve the moisture level of the material in those high wear areas. Will bunker rake entire skin and finish. Going to mow off entire field. Should not be the same place when done! Plan on leaving Bennington at 8, will take just over an hour to get there. Slow going with loaded trailer.... Pete

Thanks Jimmy K for the help today... It was a successful day revamping the satellite field! Please feel free to give me your feedback on the condition of the field. It still is a work in progress we need 1 more big load of material that I brought from mau (thank Timmy brown)for the mound. We will get that done. The stems on the bases need to be cut down 1" so that they fit more flush to the ground. Jimmy K is taking care of that. The bunker rake did a nice job smoothing out the skin esp around the bases and home plate. Used the sod cutter to clean up grass edges and took lip around mound, down.... Mound cut out is too wide so we are planning on a resod project to bring it to an 18' diameter. The base path cut outs are too wide so there will some resodding there as well. Jimmy K was still there at 4 when we were leaving and from the driveway looking across the field it looked like a completely different place. The mound being the centerpiece changes the look and feel of this field.. After Pete Westfall gets the outfield top dressed this field is shaping up to be one of the better fields around. Pitchers please try not to dig big holes. Holes will be made but if the mound and home plate gets raked after every game it will go a long way in preserving those areas. Anxious to see how the mound plays for U guys!! Oh and forgot one thing... The pitchers plate was 60'9"!! No wonder I missed about 15 low strikes Sunday.... )
To be continued....... Pete G
