Does anyone know when the long promised Home Run Fence will go up at Satellite Field???
The setting up of a home run fence does more that give players who hit deep hits to the outfield their rightful Home Run. It also lets fielders have a better sense for playing the outfield, and stopping hard hit grounders to roll for triples and/or homeruns....
Before the season started.... an announcement was made that a Home Run fence would be put up..... and they even had the distance the fence would be at in all 3 fields.............
So far........ No Fence.......!!
I would greatly appreciate any news anyone might have!!
A fence would be nice, but now that we have the rain softening up the field, rolling the outfield should be the 1st priority to cut down on the continuing injuries.
Yes, "we" are "they". The league has money in the account that was raised from the players. Some of that money should be spent to get the field improved using the right equipment as soon as possible.

I believe Ralph was referring to volunteer labor
Just an FYI ...... if you walk the outfield you will see it is not a matter of rolling the outfield ..... there are areas of dead / missing grass that results in the uneven playing field.
I know John Reel was planning on working on a test area and trying to fill it in with dirt and put some grass seed on it.
As far as the fence itself we can't do anything until the school team(s) are done with the field.
I agree that planting grass would help. Adding dirt to the entire outfield would be a mammoth undertaking and a huge expense. That being said, I disagree with your observation that the problem can't be helped by rolling the field. Prior to 2012, Satellite field was not appreciably uneven. When we started playing in 2012, it was an entirely different situation. I play outfield in the 45's and the 55's and saw the dramatic change from the prior year. I'm convinced it was due to soccer and possibly other sports being played on an extremely wet field in the late fall of 2011 or early spring of 2012. I don't believe that the lack of grass in spots could make this field so uneven with almost every step we take in the outfield. I played 24 years of softball on poorly maintained elementary fields and never witnessed anything close to approximating this condition. Finally, we may have a small window of opportunity to roll the field due to recent rains and the heat of summer around the corner. I believe John Reel was looking for the opportunity to schedule this repair when the rains finally softened up the ground. It appears the time is upon us in the next few days.
It might help to roll it while the ground is soft. It would have to be a roller that weighed at least 5 tons. But, at this point, with the grass that has already grown and matured out of the thousands of little moguls that are out there, it may not be appreciably different after rolling.
Fence, not until we get the all clear from the school. Yes agree a fence changes how you play the OF as well as providing for the HR.
OF, We need to move quickly in the next couple weeks and will be asking for volunteers on whatever course we take. Several like here have been suggested. we'll get it done .
IF dirt , is coming along, the rain helps here. the grass there is good and even as possible .
Mound and plate, have never been better and that due the clay and continued grooming by you guys. thanks.
Shed and foul ball grass need some care. and we are waiting on the delivery of tarps, water removal equipment ,and the repair of a donated tractor among other things.
Yea Jim B., the 55's should have a stellar field. Even if it costs an extra $25-50 per player per season. This will be the last level we play the game we all love. It's kind of like the old guys driving new Cadillacs and Mercedes. At this point, why not spend the money for what you want ? Life doesn't last forever. Not on this earth anyway. And yes--I've heard the one about baseball in Heaven.
