On a day when no one thought we would be playing baseball, the Braves suffered their first defeat Saturday to the Reds behind an excellent pitching performance by Joe Burns. The Braves failed to produce any clutch offense despite several scoring opportunities, while the potent Reds line up capitalized on theirs. Next up for the Braves is Shasky's next Sunday at Satellite. Should be a good match-up between the 2-1 teams.
Joe Burns picked up his 2nd win of this young season, going the distance, scattering 4 hits while striking out 8 and walking 4. Offensively for the Reds, Joe Careccia came up a HR short of the cycle, going 3 for 3. Burns and VanWormer contributed 2 hits apiece for the Reds, who had 10 of 11 hitters with at least 1 hit. Jeff Sharpe knocked in the only run for the Braves with a long double to left center.
Hey Reds you guys are a great hitting team....makes me think if I could throw the ball any harder you guys would just hit it farther. We cretainly had our share of mistakes and as steve said missed opportunities at the plate with runners in scoring position more than a few times.thanks for a good game and a fine example of where we need to get in this league to compete for 7 inn against your caliber Mark DeNicola
