Giants/Cougars Beat the Rain

While the rest of the CDMSBL began toiling away with batting practice, stretching, throwing, soft toss, etc - some as early as January, Hall of Famer and "retired" Dick Stark (Farve) sat in a chair on his front lawn in Charlotte, NC, sending pictures of green grass to old teammaes and telling tales of warm weather, wearing shorts and games of golf.........la dee Da. No batting practice, no.throwing, no nothing.
So, Stark texts me telling me he's going to be in Town this weekend.......do we need a guy. Turns out, we did. Stark drives up from Charlotte, I think right to the field in shorts and t-shirt, says he needs a uni, a hat, a belt, a bat, a glove ......... Dude's got nothing.

Dick Stark went 3 for 3 with a walk, 3 runs scored and 2 RBI's in the Giants17-4 win over an improved Cougars team. It's always good to play ball with old friends. We beat the rain by minutes - Satellite was in the best condition yet this year.

Other Giant notables:
Bobby Bolt - a hit, 3 walks, 3 runs scored
Doug Reisinger - 3 hits, 2 runs, 3RBI
Mark Dabney - 3 hits, 2 RBI
Mario Arduini - 2 hits, walk, run, RBI
Mike Labanowski - triple, run, RBI

Effective Giants pitchers: Konstantakis, Nardacci, Arduini (who also caught) and Labanowski.

The Cougars staged a rally in the 5th inning, scoring 4 runs. Zafron (my apology, I didn't get his first name) hit a LONG double (His second 2B) over centerfielder Konstantakis' head, scoring three runs.

Fun day, got a game in that most of us thought would be rained out.

Little known fact: Dick Stark is the only CDMSBL manager to be "fired" AFTER winning the 45 Championship in 2009 - something he reminds Jimmy K of any time he can...........which he did again today after the game having pizza at Smitty's. Good stuff!
