Several players showed up Thursday to again work on the field.
We rolled the infield with a 1-ton rig and cut the grass pretty short. It's a little better, but we need some rain. We rolled the OF as well, but with only minimal effect. We realize more needs to be done in the OF and are considering several options.
We cut the infield and basepaths so it looks really clean, and watered and raked the entire infield. The skin is looking really good and playing better each game. We still have lots of work in front of us, but there has been a big improvement.
Need to ask a huge favor to pitchers. Please do NOT dig out in front of the pitching plate. Let that clay harden so we don't keep on having to replace it. And many pitchers do complain about it being dug out. Plus, when its dug out, we have to fix it before each game rather than just give it some water and tap it.
Hope those who use the field are seeing a difference.
Special thanx to President John Reel, who spearheaded the effort, and Don Burriesci, Bill Smith, Tom Maney, Don Wixon, Read Shephard and Ed Diegel for all their hard work Thursday.
UPDATE: We played a 45 game Saturday and the IF played really nice. Dragged the IF twice after our game. Nice and firm, plus we got some rain. Nice and firm, plus we got some rain.
Jim, Appreciate the hard work by all put in on the field last Thursday. We played on it last saturday, the infield was much better. Keep me in the loop for any future field work. Thanks, John Cortese
